KRIC announces $2000 scholarship for youth to attend SHAD Valley

The Kootenay Rockies Innovation Council (KRIC) has announced a partnership with Shad Valley, Canada’s premier program for igniting an entrepreneurial and innovative spark in Canada’s youth, to provide a $2000 scholarship  to a high-achieving grade 10, 11 or 12 student in the East Kootenay.

This exceptional development opportunity will be granted to the student who submits the strongest application by January 18, 2012. In addition, Shad Valley also offers a financial awards package (scholarships and bursaries) to successful candidates who need support towards their participant fee.

Shad Valley is the place for bright youth to push their creative and intellectual capacity to the limit. Their participants have:

  • creative and entrepreneurial minds;
  • initiative and drive;
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • leadership abilities and the desire to be part of a collaborative, high performance team;
  • involvement in their school and community; and
  • high academic achievement, with a passion for math, science, and technology.

The award-winning program is a four-week university–based experience that enables students to open their minds and explore a wide variety of education and career options.

Living on campus for the month of July, students participate in workshops, lectures, labs, business projects, and recreational activities that increase their understanding of innovation, and boost their self-confidence and leadership skills.

Student, parents and teachers are encouraged to visit www.shad.ca for application information, or email info@shad.ca for additional details.

The Kootenay Rockies Innovation Council (KRIC) advances science, technology and innovation in the East Kootenay by providing programming and support for businesses, communities and students/educators.
